Hydraulic Dredge No. 1 - NYS Canal Corp.

Hydraulic Dredge No. 1 also known as HD-1 is equipped with a spinning rotary cutter head on the end of a long pipe lowered into the water. A giant pump in the dredge sucks up the mud and powers it out the back into a floating pipeline several hundred yards long. The pipeline runs up the bank into a pond where the water is allowed to run back into the canal. Earth movers can then load the dirt up on trucks and carry it away.

Another look at the floating pipeline attached to the back end of Hydraulic Dredge No. 1 (HD1) . The pipeline is comprised of sections of steel pipe on floats, connected together with rubber sections. This makes the entire pipeline somewhat flexible.
