The Travels of Tug 44

Carolina Wren

Carolina Wrens are not very common here in Fort Edward, we are at about the northern end of their range. Our winters are hard on them and many don't do well here when the temperature hits 35 degrees below zero. They do not migrate.   high-res

This Carolina Wren was visiting my bird feeder but oddly didn't take anything and left soon after. In summer they live mostly on bugs, but in winter they will switch to seeds and berries.   high-res

Carolina Wrens are known for their tails always sticking straight up ... except for when they sing, which they do a lot. Their call sounds like "teakettle, teakettle".   high-res

The Carolina Wren, a cute little Grasslands bug killer.
