Painted Lady Butterfly

The Painted Lady Butterfly is one of the prettier critters out there. They live on flower nectar which they suck up with their proboscis, as this one is doing.   high-res

This Painted Lady Butterfly was flittering from flower to flower, and it almost never stopped flapping it's wings.   high-res

Painted Ladies as well as all butterflies have 4 wings. The front pair has colors on both sides, or at least it shows through, while the rear wings are colored mostly on the upper side only.   high-res
