Red-Breasted Merganser

The Red-Breasted Merganser is a large, slim diving duck, that specializes in catching fish. They are seen around here on the Hudson River only during their migrations.   high-res

They have bright red eyes and the typical Merganser beak, long and narrow, with serrations to hold on to slippery fish. This one is a male.   high-res

The male Red-Breasted Merganser has a row of feathers on the side used for mating displays, they are white with squiggly marks.   high-res
