The Travels of Tug 44

Red-Throated Loon

Red-Throated Loons are seen in Fort Edward on the Hudson River, generally only during their spring and fall migrations. They summer and breed in the Arctic. This one is wearing its out-of-season colors.   high-res

Red-Throated Loons are fish eaters, they are terrific swimmers and divers, but they don't walk very well on land.   high-res

Red-Throated Loons have solid bones, not hollow ones as with most birds. This enables them to dive deeper and they do float low in the water.   high-res
