Ring-Necked Duck

Ring-Necked Ducks are small black and white ducks usually found on lakes and ponds but we get them on the Hudson River when migrating. The neck ring is very faint and seldom seen, this is the only photo I have that shows it.   high-res

Ring-Necked Ducks are divers, they go down to the bottom for aquatic plants as well as any critters they find down there such as crayfish, snails, etc.   high-res

They seem to be very proud of their highly decorated bills, they wave them in the air a lot.   high-res

The female Ring-Necked Duck is mostly brown and has only one white stripe on her bill. That's a male on the left and 2 females on the right.   high-res

A closer look at the female Ring-Necked Duck. This one was sound asleep a moment before, while paddling along with her mate. Her eyes are still partially shut.   high-res
