Erie Canal Lock E-15 at Fort Plain

Westbound view of Lock E-15 at Fort Plain. In this shot from 2014, the dam superstructure is being painted. Look closely and you'll see several workers on the top.

April 2007, the dam is shown with the gates lifted for winter when the Mohawk River is allowed to return to its normal level. To raise the water level for boating, the long green ribs will be lowered down to a concrete sill. Then the large metal plates can be lowered down into the water, blocking the river's flow and causing the water level to rise.
