The Travels of Tug 44

Ambrose Light Tower - Hudson Canyon

Years ago, a series of Lightships were anchored at this location, about 10 miles out to sea from New York Harbor. Later, several different towers were built here, with the most recent one (shown here) built in 1999. This Light Tower marks the beginning of the Ambrose Channel gateway into New York Harbor, and is also an automated weather observatory. Maintenance is not what it should be, the automated wave height indicator has been broken for several years. The station carries the NOAA designation ALSN6.

In July 2008, the Ambrose Light Tower was decommissioned.
