John D. McKean - NYC Fireboat

The Fireboat John D. McKean was built in 1954 and remains on active duty as a New York City fireboat.

Close-up of her pilothouse and foredeck. Notice the huge brass water cannon on her nose.

She is 129 feet long, 30 feet wide with a 9 foot draft. She is capable of pumping 19,000 gallons per minute, making her nearly as effective as her sister ship, "Fire Fighter", NYC's largest fireboat.

The super-structure on top allows the John D. McKean to shoot water from a higher angle than most fireboats.
