The Travels of Tug 44

Atlantic Companion - Container Ship & RoRo

At 958 feet long, the Atlantic Companion is one of the biggest ships in the Port of New York and New Jersey. She is a combination Container Ship and Car Carrier RoRo (Roll-On, Roll-Off). Owned and operated by Atlantic Container Lines, along with 4 identical sister ships, she runs the cross-Atlantic route at 18 knots.

With most of Atlantic Companion's containers previously unloaded elsewhere, the tugboat Charles D. McAllister turns the ship 90 degrees before pushing her backwards down the Newark Channel where she will unload her cargo of automobiles, down the folding ramp on her stern.
