Unusual Locks & Boat-Lifts






Nowhere is it written that a lift lock must consist of a chamber of water with doors on both ends. There are many different ways of getting a boat up a hill or past waterfalls, and here we present a selected few of the more unusual ones.

While most locks still follow the same old tried-and-true design, some are positively futuristic, such as Scotland's Falkirk Wheel, shown on the left.
